NEDERLAND RECEIVES SAFE SPORTS DESIGNATION

The National Athletic Trainers Association has recognized Nederland High School for meeting the requirements for the Safe Sports School First Team. 

This recognition highlights the Athletic Training Department's commitment to a high standard of care and preparation for our student-athletes and staff.

UIL PRE-PARTICIPATION PHYSICAL FORM

VISITING TEAMS

For all games played at Bulldog stadium:  Visiting teams will be provided a continuous flow water station as well as twenty gallons of ice for injury or other.  There will also be a single stainless steel table and benches set up on the visiting team sideline.   

For all sports visiting NISD:  Water coolers and ice will be provided at all events.  If your athletes require taping, we are happy to help them with whatever they need.  However, we do ask that you please send your athletes with their own tape and supplies.

If you have any questions or need any special accommodations, please contact the Athletic Training staff and we will do our best to meet your needs.

STUDENT ATHLETIC TRAINING PROGRAM

Our Student Athletic Training Aides are a dedicated, hard-working group of young men and women who assist the Certified Athletic Trainers with football season tasks.  If you are interested in joining the Student Athletic Training team, please contact Coach Lewis or Coach G.


Athletic Trainers are available on school days from 7:15am until practices or games are finished for the day.

Matt Lewis, LAT, ATC
Currently serves as the Head Athletic Trainer at Nederland High School.  He holds a B.E.S.S., with Athletic Training Curriculum from Texas State University.  Matt was certified by the NATA Board of Certification in 1993 and has been a Licensed Athletic Trainer by the Texas Department of Health Services since 1992.  He is a past President and Member of The Athletic Trainers of the Golden Triangle.  Over his career, he has served as an Athletic Trainer with the Detroit Tigers professional baseball team, as well as the Southeast Texas Mavericks.  He has also served as a member of the Justin Sports Medicine team.  Prior to Nederland High School, Matt served as the Director of Outreach Sports Medicine at Beaumont Bone and Joint Institute.  Matt currently resides in Nederland, Texas, with his wife Stacy and his sons, Dwight and Ty.


Karina Garcilazo, MS, LAT, ATC
Originally from Arkansas, Karina is a proud alumna of the University of Central Arkansas, where she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training. She completed her Masters Degree at Lamar University while working as a Certified Athletic Trainer with the Women's Soccer team and the Cardinal Football team. Karina cared for the women's soccer team when they won the regular season and Southland Conference Tournament in 2017. She also has experience with the USA men's deaf national soccer team, as she cared for them throughout their run in the 2022 Deaflympics in Brazil. She carries the same elite and dedicated care to our Bulldog student-athletes. Karina is a firm believer in all athletes, regardless of age or level, being deserving of access to quality healthcare so they can safely compete at their highest potential.
