Dual Credit Information
As a junior, the following dual credit classes are offered:
- English Composition (ENGL 1301 and 1302)
- Chemistry (CHEM 1411) *This course requires students to take college algebra over the summer at Lamar State College Port Arthur as a prerequisite.
- Cosmetology (CSME 1310, 1401, 1453, 2202) *This program requires transportation to Lamar State College Port Arthur every day.
- Welding
- HVAC *This program requires transportation to Lamar State College Port Arthur
ApplyTexas
Any student taking dual credit classes next year must complete an application to LSCPA through ApplyTexas. This can be done at the following website: https://goapplytexas.org/. There will be a meeting next semester in the PAC to help with completing the application.
Sophomore Conferences

Sophomore conferences will begin on February 1st. Individual dates and times for each student will be sent home in the mail. At this conference, we will discuss graduation plans and post-high school plans. Parents who would like to participate by phone will complete a Google Form. Click here to sign-up
Honors Class Information
Any 10th-grade students wanting to take Honors classes (PreAP, AP, Honors, Academic Dual Credit) next year -
Don't forget to get your Honors Contract form (pink color) signed and returned to the counselor's office.
Teacher signatures come from your current teachers.
- English III AP/Dual Credit - current English teacher signs
- PreCalculus PreAP - current math teacher signs
- Chemistry AP/Dual Credit - BOTH current science & math teacher signs
- Anatomy & Physiology & Biology AP - current science teacher
- US History AP - current social studies teacher signs
- Spanish III PreAP/Spanish IV AP or French III PreAP - current foreign language teacher signs
- Computer Sci PreAP - current math teacher signs
- Computer Science AP/Computer Sci III Honors - current computer science teacher signs
- Music AP - current band or choir teacher
Your honors classes for next year will be determined by what is on the Honors Contract form. For example, if you put English III AP on your course planner, but don't put it on your honors contract form, then you will be moved to regular English. If you put regular English on your course planner, but sign up for English III AP on your Honors Contract form, you will be moved to English III AP.

ASVAB Test
THE ASVAB WILL BE ADMINISTERED TO ANY INTERESTED 10-12 GRADER (date to be determined).

Testing Information
You can start practicing for the SAT tests now - SAT tests are generally taken in the 2nd semester of 11th grade year. PSAT are taken in 10th grade for practice and 11th grade for National Merit Scholars.
Khan Academy & SAT Materials
Exciting news: Khan Academy is partnering with the College Board so that all students who want to go to college can prepare for the SAT at their own pace, at no cost.
Tutoring Schedules
Parents/Guardians and Students:
Take advantage of the free after school tutoring program offered by Nederland High School from 3:45 PM to 5:45 PM.
A student does not have to stay the entire two hours for tutoring. A student can also split their tutoring time between the different subjects.
Students can get help from their individual subject teachers at any time. Most teachers like prior notice if a student will be coming in early or staying after school for tutoring so the teacher can make plans to be available.

CoEnrolled/Dual Credit
If you are taking Co-Enrolled/Dual Credit classes for next school year, you will need to do 2 things.
- Register for an account at applytexas.org website and submit an application for Dual Credit to LamarSCPA. Your application to LSCPA will be complete once you receive a LSCPA ID # that starts with the letter P. If you do not complete this you will not be able to start step two. Do NOT use your school email for the applytexas.org account.
- Take the TSIA2 assessment to show that you are college ready. This is required from LSCPA. This assessment covers math, reading and writing. The tests will take about 4 hours. The cost of the test is $25.
Passing standard for the TSIA2 –
ELAR – score 945 and higher – the diagnostic level does not count; if you score below 945 – the diagnostic level has to be 5 or 6.
Essay – 5 or 6
Math – score 950 or higher – the diagnostic level doesn’t count; if you score below 950; the diagnostic level has to be a 6.
Students who are taking Co-Enrolled Chemistry needs to pass all sections of the TSIA2 Assessment. Students taking ENG III and US History needs to pass the ELAR and Essay; math is not required.
To schedule and register for the TSIA2 – Contact Mrs. Hyatt at 409-984-6244, she is in the Student Testing Center at LSCPA. I do NOT schedule any of this.
If you have taken the SAT or ACT, TSIA2 Exemptions are as follows:
For the SAT test - A minimum score of 480 on the Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) and A minimum score of 530 on the mathematics test shall be exempt for the mathematics section.
For the ACT test - Composite score of 23 or higher with at least a 19 on both English and Math sections.
The last day to apply is June 1st for LSCPA. The last day to take the TSIA2 is June 4th whether it’s your 1st time or you are retesting. After the June 4th date, all classes will be dropped to regular unless you email me that you want to be in AP instead of regular.

Scholarships, internships, job options and an extensive industry resource list are also included.
When in doubt about what to study in school, the TEXASgenuine.org site provides options. Ascertaining what fields are of greatest interest to a potential student, what type of education and experience might be required in that field, what programs one might study in school to work in that field, and what state colleges might have those programs.
